TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Signing
Red Bull New York have elevated midfielder Sekou Koné from MLS NEXT Pro side Red Bull New York II, the club announced Friday.
The 19-year-old Malian midfielder is under contract through the 2027-28 MLS season with club options for 2028-2029 and 2029-2030.
Koné has already made two first-team appearances this season, debuting against LAFC on Sept. 9 before earning his first MLS start against St. Louis CITY SC on Sept. 30.
“We’re excited to welcome Sekou to the first team. He’s a talented young midfielder who shows great composure on the ball and has the ability to cover a lot of ground,” said RBNY head of sport Julian de Guzman.
“Sekou has performed at a high level for RBNY II this season and has earned this opportunity. We look forward to seeing him continue his development and contribute at the next level.”
Koné joined RBNY II on loan from Malian side Yeelen Olympique in February. He made 18 MLS NEXT Pro appearances this season, recording his first assist against CT United FC on July 19.
“Sekou has really good qualities for a young midfielder," said head coach Michael Bradley. “He has continued to grow and develop throughout the season and we believe he is ready to take the next step in his career."
