Houston Dynamo FC have acquired striker Lyle Foster on loan from EFL Championship side Burnley FC, the club announced Thursday.

The 26-year-old South African international's loan lasts through June 2027 and includes a purchase option.

He spent last season in the Premier League with Burnley, and represented his home country at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Foster joins Houston after they recently transferred Designated Player striker Ezequiel Ponce to LaLiga side Elche. Earlier this summer, they also acquired US international striker Duncan McGuire from Orlando City.

"Lyle presents another powerful, mobile forward to our attacking group," said Dynamo president of soccer Pat Onstad. "He threatens the space behind the back line, links play well and brings the work rate and intensity that we demand without the ball.

"Lyle’s experience in the Premier League and on the international stage will strengthen our group, and we are excited to welcome him to Houston as we prepare for a strong finish to the season."

Foster has tallied 30 goals and 23 assists in 194 professional appearances since breaking through at South African Premiership giants Orlando Pirates.

He's since traversed several European clubs, including Monaco (France), Cercle Brugge and Westerlo (Belgium), Vitória de Guimarães (Portugal) and Burnley (England).

Internationally, Foster has 10 goals in 28 caps with South Africa. He started their 2026 World Cup opener vs. Mexico and scored twice at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

Houston are second in the Western Conference (39 points), with winter signings Guilherme and Mateusz Bogusz leading the attack. The club's 30 goals are tied for the fewest among teams currently in the Audi MLS Cup Playoffs places.
