Chicago Fire FC have acquired winger Johan Gómez from German 2. Bundesliga side Eintracht Braunschweig, the club announced Wednesday.

The 25-year-old former US youth international is under contract through the 2028-29 season with an option for 2029-30.

An FC Dallas Academy product, Gómez has tallied 21g/16a in 203 professional appearances across stints with FCD MLS NEXT Pro affiliate North Texas SC, FC Porto's reserves, and FSV Zwickau and Eintracht Braunschweig in Germany.

Internationally, he represented the United States at the U-20 and U-23 levels.

"We're excited to add a player of Johan’s caliber to the club," said Chicago director of football and head coach Gregg Berhalter.

“To have already accumulated more than 100 appearances in Germany at his age speaks to both his quality and consistency. His versatility gives us valuable flexibility across multiple positions, and we believe he will strengthen the group as we continue building a competitive roster."

Gómez is Chicago's latest summer signing, following legendary Polish striker Robert Lewandowski, Georgian international midfielder Anzor Mekvabishvili and Norwegian international defender Andreas Hanche-Olsen.

The Fire are third in the Eastern Conference (37 points) and looking for a second straight Audi MLS Cup Playoffs trip under Berhalter.
